MPH Limited, the Harwich-based pre-press services provider, has introduced imaging services for UK-based users of SPGPrints’ nickel RotaMesh® tactile rotary screens. The screens apply heavy varnish layers up to 250µm thickness to labels and packaging in a single pass, and are commonly used for features such as warning triangles, braille dots and coarse varnishes.
Capable of printing thick ink layers at speed, rotary screen printing is often used as a complementary process to flexo, offset, gravure and letterpress for creating value-added aesthetic or functional features on labels and packaging. These also include rich opaque colours, metallic colours, raised varnishes, glitter effects and security features including optically variable and conductive inks.
As a result of the new service, MPH can provide label converters across the country with a fast, local source for imaging the complete range of RotaMesh screens. With their non-woven, electroformed nickel construction and hexagonal honeycomb structure RotaMesh screens offer strength, stability, image sharpness and consistency at speeds up to 150m/min, and easy handling. They can be re-imaged many times, impacting their cost-effectiveness throughout the supply chain and are used with SPGPrints’ Rotary Screen Integration (RSI®) modules that can be specified on new presses or retrofitted into existing ones.
Craig Alderson, sales director, MPH Limited, comments: “There has been growing demand for features such as the warning triangle on labels for chemical products and electronic cigarettes, while braille has become established for pharmaceutical goods. The installation of specialist imaging equipment for tactile screens at MPH means all UK users of RotaMesh screens can enjoy the substantial long-term cost-savings of re-usability as well as faster lead-times that are as low as 24 hours.”
Established in 1982, MPH Limited offers prepress services including plate-making, reprographics, packaging mock-ups in addition to rotary screen imaging, to the flexographic, label and narrow web, and medium-web markets. The company has been offering SPGPrints RotaMesh imaging services for 15 years.
Hank Guitjens, commercial manager label printing at SPGPrints, comments “MPH has been instrumental in helping us maintain a high level of support to our UK rotary screen customers, thanks to their resources and industry expertise. The addition of screen preparation for tactile applications at MPH means our customers are even better placed to meet the demands of the market competitively.”
